Welcome to Stopgap Community Cinema

Stopgap Community Cinema is a community-centered cinema located in Helensburgh, Argyll and Bute. 
We strive to offer an inclusive environment where everyone can enjoy films together. 
Our mission includes hosting public screenings of popular films and offering free private screenings for local charities and organizations.

We are  based in  Helensburgh  which is classified as a rural area with districts of significant social deprevation. We launched in 2024 and started trading in November 2024. We were setup to keep cinema alive in the rural area covered by Helensburgh and the peninsular after the local cinema shut its doors in May 2024

Our bussinesbussiness  model is to only hire a venue as and when needed without the need for a permanent building which has crippled cinemas in the past. We do not pay for heating, electricity,  building insurance, fire and building permits or council tax as this is included  in a  hourly hire rate.

Since November 2024  we have screened a mix of public films and private screenings for local charities and organisations. 

We have a team of volunteers who hold PVG certificate and we have implemented  robust volunteer certificatesand eqal opportunities  policies.

We have included simple training and job experience i front of house and  AV management for young and nurodivergent members of our community.

We offer 10% of our audience capacity free of charge to ensure cost is not a barrier to attending the Cinema.

Our free private screenings  ensure disabilities are not a barrier to enjoying an evening at  the "flics"

We are happy to adjust  our screenings  make them dementia or autism friendly.

Our venue is on the flat, 100% disabled acessible with adjacent disability toilets with baby changing.

We have ample  free onsite parking and we are only a short walk to Helensburgh Central Station.
